The Ministry of Internal Affairs has warned Kazakhstani citizens about the risks of fraud involving artificial intelligence and targeted advertising, as reported by Tengrinews.kz referencing Polisia.kz.

The agency reminded that targeted advertising is a tool for promoting information, widely utilized on social networks and online platforms, and has also been adopted by internet fraudsters. This can include fake investment funds as well as "legal services for the recovery" of funds stolen by scammers.

In creating advertisements, cybercriminals use original videos of well-known figures, law firms, and lawyers, distorting them with the help of artificial intelligence to deceive the public.

According to the statistics provided by the police, in 2024, over 2,500 citizens invested their money in non-existent funds. There are also frequent cases where individuals seek help from other scammers to recover their stolen money, resulting in even larger losses. For example, a resident of the Karaganda region, in her attempt to recover 40,000 tenge spent on an online purchase, lost over 11 million tenge.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs explained how to identify fraudulent advertisements:

  • too tempting offers - the advertisement promises easy money and fantastic conditions for wealth without any risks;
  • links lead to dubious websites without contact information or licenses;
  • requests for personal data demanding to input questionnaire details, card numbers, passport information, or other personal information;
  • aggressive marketing and pressure with calls to "not miss the opportunity";
  • persistent calls from "investment" fund managers;
  • pay attention to the facial expressions of famous individuals in the advertisements, and any mismatch between lip movements and sound.

"Be vigilant and ignore suspicious offers; trust only verified sources," the Ministry of Internal Affairs warned.
