The Minister of Culture and Information of Kazakhstan urged online platform administrators to take responsibility.

The Minister of Culture and Information of Kazakhstan, Aida Balaeva, has called on internet resource administrators to be more vigilant in monitoring the materials they publish and to remove any false or illegal content, as reported by El.kz.
Министр культуры и информации РК призвала администраторов онлайн-платформ нести ответственность за контент.

According to her, the spread of unverified information could lead to platform bans, and users must remember their responsibility for their posts and comments.

The ministry rarely resorts to prohibitive measures, considering that millions of citizens receive news from online sources. However, it is essential to understand that sharing information is not only a matter of freedom of speech but also carries a responsibility to society.

Statistics show that in the year 2023-2024, the amount of illegal content in the Kazakh segment of the internet has nearly doubled, reaching 116,354 items.

The most common violations include:

  • propaganda of terrorism and religious extremism,
  • advertising of drugs,
  • promotion of online casinos and financial pyramids.

In the past year, 78,539 pieces of content containing prohibited material were identified in the Kazakh internet, but only 24.3% of them were removed.

“Cohesion and unity are key factors in the stability of any state. We must support the President's course and adhere to the principles of law and order that underpin a rule of law state,” – emphasized Aida Balayeva.
