Kazakh gas is stuck at the Polish border: here's what the EU representative had to say about the situation.

On January 30, 2025, David O'Sullivan, the EU's Special Envoy for Sanctions, commented in Astana on the situation regarding the Kazakhstan liquefied gas tankers that are stranded at the Polish border.

Hundreds of tankers raised suspicions with Polish customs. They requested additional documents to verify whether the gas was truly from Kazakhstan and not from Russia.

"I suspect that the liquefied gas was transported through Russia, and there are grounds to believe that this product may have Russian origins. The Polish authorities have every right to demand documents confirming the product's Kazakh origin. It should not be difficult to provide the necessary documentation and prove that the product was manufactured in Kazakhstan," said David O'Sullivan.

On January 29, Kazakh expert Oleg Chervinsky reported on his Telegram channel that Polish customs had begun allowing liquefied gas from Kazakhstan into the country, although checks on its origin are ongoing.

In the first half of January, over 100 railway tankers produced by Tengizchevroil were accumulated at the border.

The European Union imposed a ban on the import of Russian gas starting December 20, 2024, after which the Polish side intensified cargo inspections at border crossings, leading to delays in the entry of Kazakh fuel into the country.

According to the order of the Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan, the export of liquefied gas from the republic is permitted only from companies like Tengizchevroil, NCOC, Zhaikmunai, and from raw materials sourced from the Karachaganak field.

It was previously reported that prices for autogas in Kazakhstan would increase starting February 1, 2025.
