The former head of the fifth department of the National Security Committee, Ruslan Iskakov, has been sentenced in connection with the events of January 2022, as reported by a Tengrinews.kz correspondent.
The court sentenced Iskakov to 15 years and six months of imprisonment with a lifetime ban on holding positions in public service. He was found guilty of exceeding authority and forming an organized criminal group.
Ruslan Iskakov faced charges of "abuse of power," "illegal deprivation of liberty," and "creating and leading a criminal group."
In September 2023, Ruslan Iskakov made a sensational statement in court. According to the defendant, during the January events, he allegedly followed orders from Samat Abish, who at that time served as the first deputy head of the National Security Committee.
