The court has issued a verdict against Kairat Kudaibergen regarding the events of January 2022, reports Tengrinews.kz correspondent.
Kudaibergen has been sentenced to 8 years in prison. The court found him guilty of organizing and participating in mass riots. He has also been prohibited from engaging in journalistic activities.
Kairat Kudaibergen, a former deputy of the VII convocation of the city maslikhat, was detained on April 22, 2022, in connection with the January events. He has been in custody since that day.
Kudaibergen was suspected of organizing and participating in mass riots. The preliminary investigation established that he, along with Arman Dzhumageldiev (a criminal authority known as Diki Arman), organized a gathering of people at the Kazakhstan hotel in Almaty. According to the investigation, Kudaibergen called for unity around Dzhumageldiev, urged support for him, and proposed unified demands to the authorities. He also divided people into groups of 10 and instructed them to wear white armbands as a distinguishing sign of their faction.
