According to the press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Kazakhstan, after the fire, an explosion of a gas-air mixture occurred, leading to the collapse of the hangar. Four employees of the oil depot have been hospitalized.
"The first emergency response units arrived at the scene in a matter of minutes and began extinguishing the fire while wearing protective heat-reflective suits. Additional firefighting teams followed shortly after. The operational headquarters deployed on-site made a strategic decision to send one of the teams to protect the adjacent fuel tank by cooling it down. Positioning fire trucks at the nearest fire hydrants to the blaze, the firefighters managed to eliminate the fire over an area of 100 square meters using a foam attack," said Didar Kuikaev, head of the Emergency Situations Department of Zhezkazgan.
It is also reported that the fire was classified as of increased complexity. Specialists will determine the cause of the ignition.
