Over 80 works by classic and contemporary masters of pop art have been brought to the Lumiere-Hall multimedia museum in Almaty. The exhibition showcases the creativity of 20 artists, illustrating key stages in the evolution of this movement. The display is divided into three sections.
The first section is dedicated to the "golden age" of pop art. Here, you can find works by Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Keith Haring, Robert Rauschenberg, and Jasper Johns. These artists laid the foundations of the movement by utilizing images from mass culture, advertising, and celebrity.
The second part features works by contemporary artists such as Banksy, Prefab 77, and Richard Ryan. Their pieces reinterpret the ideas of pop art, merging them with street art and digital technologies.
The third block offers a unique perspective on pop art from the Kazakhstani artist Mimi Ilnitskaya. Her works seamlessly blend national symbols with the aesthetics of pop art, adding a distinctive flavor to the exhibition.
According to Polina Yegarmina, co-founder of Lumiere-Hall, the exhibition is organized as part of the second collaboration with the "Has Sanat" gallery. She noted that the project not only showcases the richness of pop art but also invites contemplation on the impact of mass culture on modern life.
The exhibition will be accompanied by lectures on the lives and works of pop art figures, as well as exclusive stories about the behind-the-scenes narratives of art.
