A Kazakh actor won an award in New York for his role in the film "Citizens of the Roof."

At the Oniros Film Awards in New York, the film "Citizens of the Roof" received two awards. The 15-year-old Alexander Cherepanov won in the "Best Young Actor" category for his portrayal of Kostik, a teenager with autism, as reported by El.kz, referencing QAZAQ CULTURE.

Additionally, the film's director, Gulshat Smagulova, has been named a finalist in the "Best Debut Director" category.

Oniros Film Awards is a prestigious international competition recognized by IMDb. The award takes place every three months in New York City, celebrating outstanding works from filmmakers around the globe.

Alexander Cherepanov is honing his acting skills in Vitaly Davydov's workshop and performs at the "Balaganchik" theater. His portrayal of an autistic teenager, delivered with profound sensitivity and authenticity, received high praise from both audiences and the jury.

“Citizens of the Roof” is the debut work of director Gulshat Smagulova, a VGIK graduate with over 15 years of experience in film production. The film explores themes of social adaptation and inclusion, highlighting the importance of human relationships.

The screenplay was penned by Zhanna Timofeeva, with Alexander Plotnikov serving as the director of photography and Elena Aitova as the production designer.

The project features both young talents and experienced actors: Eldar Abish, Lydia Yartseva, Olga Landina, Evgeny Zadorozhnev, Zhanna Kuanyshova, Daulet Kekilbaev, and Baglan Nurekenov.

The film was produced by “SMAG Production” on behalf of the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan, with support from the National Cinema Support Center.
