At the "fields" of the World Climate Summit COP 29, the heads of state Kasym-Jomart Tokayev, Ilham Aliyev, and Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed an Agreement on Strategic Partnership in the production and transmission of "green" energy between the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Republic of Azerbaijan, and the Republic of Uzbekistan, reports inbusiness.kz citing Akorda.
The head of our state stated that this event marks a new chapter in the history of our common aspiration for sustainable development.
– The signing of the Agreement on Strategic Partnership is an important step in trilateral cooperation aimed at developing the regions of Central Asia and the South Caucasus. This document opens up new opportunities for the integration of the energy systems of our countries, as well as for creating reliable corridors for the supply of eco-friendly energy to European and other markets. Kazakhstan plays a crucial role here as a major transit territory. The practical outcomes of this agreement will also contribute to the development of the Middle Corridor as a "green bridge" connecting our economies. Close cooperation in this key area will enhance the exchange of experience and advanced technologies among the three states and will further strengthen our energy security, – noted the president.
According to Kasym-Jomart Tokayev, for Kazakhstan, which aims for carbon neutrality, "green" energy is a priority direction.
– We are actively working on reducing dependence on fossil resources, developing technological innovations, and creating infrastructure capable of supporting our environmental sustainability. Agreements have been reached between Kazakhstan and foreign partners on the implementation of "green" projects with a total capacity of 43 GW, – emphasized the head of state.
President Ilham Aliyev pointed out that today's agreement elevates the brotherly relations and strategic partnership among the three countries to a new level.
– The regions of Central Asia and the Caucasus act synchronously on many issues, including the development of "green" energy. We are aware of the significant plans and already achieved results in creating renewable energy sources in Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, – said the President of Azerbaijan.
The President of Uzbekistan stated that this agreement pursues not only an economic goal but also embodies a shared contribution to the future.
– I would particularly highlight the environmental significance of this project. The energy that will be transmitted – that is wind and solar energy – will help mitigate the impact on the climate. In this way, we support joint efforts to protect the climate within the framework of the Paris Agreement and achieve sustainable development goals, – said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
In the presence of the heads of state, the Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan Almasadam Satkaliyev, the Minister of Energy of Azerbaijan Parviz Shahbazov, the Minister of Energy of Uzbekistan Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov, and the Minister of Energy of Saudi Arabia Abdel Aziz bin Salman Al Saud signed the Executive Program on cooperation in the development and transmission of "green" energy.
