The development of an information system for water resources in Kazakhstan is planned to be completed by the end of 2025, reports the business information center Kapital.kz, citing the press service of the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation.
“ The Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation aims to finalize the development of the information system for water resources by the end of the year. The system will digitize and incorporate data on 17,736 rivers and 2,949 small lakes, the borders of the Caspian and Aral Seas, 8 water management basins, and 77 water management areas, 377 main canals, 56 ponds, 297 reservoirs, and 548 dams across Kazakhstan ”, - announced the Ministry of Irrigation.
In addition, a subordinate organization of the ministry, the Information and Analytical Center for Water Resources, has been engaged in this work. This structure is responsible for collecting and processing all data in the field of water management, as well as short-term and long-term forecasting, modeling, and other activities.
The ministry emphasizes that the information system being developed will modernize water management, enhance the efficiency of water resource utilization and forecasting, and ensure monitoring of their current status. The main goal of the system is to provide transparency, automation, and analysis in decision-making related to the use and protection of water resources.
“The implementation of the system will create a unified digital platform for accounting and managing water resources, increase transparency and efficiency in their use, and allow for better analysis and forecasting to prevent emergencies. Currently, the development of modules for water accounting and operational monitoring of the current state of water resources is nearing completion. After this work is finished, pilot testing of the system and user training are planned,” said Aslan Abdrayimov, the Vice Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation.
It is worth noting that earlier it was reported that organizations for the operation and management of hydraulic structures have been established in nine regions. Institutions have been opened in Akmolinsk, Aktobe, Atyrau, West Kazakhstan, North Kazakhstan, Kostanay, Kyzylorda regions, as well as in Abai and Zhetysu regions.
