The Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation is planning to construct a new reservoir and canals in the Kyzylorda region. Additionally, there will be a reconstruction of two hydrosystems and four hydraulic structures, reports a correspondent from the Kapital.kz business information center, citing the ministry's press service.
During a meeting with representatives of the region's water management, the head of the ministry reported on the work carried out by the ministry in key areas. Currently, a project is underway in the Kyzylorda region for the reconstruction of water intake stations with the installation of an automated water accounting system on five canals with a total length of approximately 232 km. Furthermore, project documentation is being developed for the automation of 16 main and inter-farm canals with a length of over 2600 km.
Work continues on the implementation of water-saving systems. Last year, thanks to water-saving technologies, farmers in the Kyzylorda region saved around 200 million cubic meters of water.
“As a result of bilateral and trilateral negotiations with neighboring countries and the decisions made, over 15 billion cubic meters of water flowed into the Shardara Reservoir in 2024. Of this, 4.8 billion cubic meters were collected during the irrigation period, while 10.3 billion cubic meters were collected outside the irrigation period. Additionally, 2.6 billion cubic meters of water were directed to the North Aral Sea through the hydro post 'Karateren'. For comparison, in 2022, only 816 million cubic meters of water were sent to the Aral Sea,” reported the Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Nurzhan Nurzhigitov.
