In the Tupkaragan district of the Mangistau region, a Swiss company is set to build the Red Pearl fish farm. The regional akim, Nurdaulet Kilybay, discussed the implementation of this investment project with representatives of Swiss Choice Holding, as reported by a correspondent from the business information center Kapital.kz, citing the press service of the akimat.
"The head of state, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, instructed during an expanded government meeting to diversify the economy and enhance efforts to attract investments. In this direction, we plan to implement various projects in the region. The investment project being discussed today is of great significance for our region. We are ready to provide comprehensive support for the successful implementation of the project within the framework of legislative norms," said Nurdaulet Kilybay.
The farm will cultivate between 100 and 600 tons of sturgeon fish annually and produce 100 tons of caviar.
For the project on the shores of the Caspian Sea, the akimat has allocated 56 hectares of land. Construction of the investment facility, totaling 5.7 billion tenge, is planned to begin in the first quarter of 2025 and be commissioned in 2026. In the first phase, they plan to grow up to 100 tons of fish.
Following the commencement of construction work, around 30 new jobs will be created. The company aims to sell its products in the domestic market and export them abroad.
It was previously reported that in Konayev, the first phase of building a modern fish processing complex has been completed. The enterprise will grow up to 10,000 tons of trout and barramundi per year.
From January to September 2024, the country produced 9.3 thousand tons of prepared or otherwise preserved fish, as well as caviar and its substitutes, which is a decrease of 10.5% compared to the same period in 2023.
