The UNDP Resident Representative in Kazakhstan, Katarzhina Vaviernia, proposed to the Akimat of the North Kazakhstan region to initiate a joint pilot project aimed at integrating sustainable economic development into regional planning. The project involves the development of a five-year territorial development program that will consider landscape planning, climate change adaptation, promotion of sustainable agriculture, development of green production and supply chains, biodiversity conservation, and the integration of climate agendas into regional planning processes. This was reported by the press service of the Akimat.
“We support this initiative and are interested in implementing the pilot project. For our region, measures aimed at increasing productivity in the agricultural sector, enhancing resilience to climate risks, and effectively preventing natural disasters are particularly important. This meeting allowed us to synchronize our efforts and outline ways to expand cooperation with UNDP. I am confident that through our joint efforts, we can achieve significant results and accelerate the implementation of sustainable and innovative solutions that will positively impact the development of our region,” noted the Akim of North Kazakhstan region, Gauyez Nurmukhambetov.
Additionally, during the meeting, Gauyez Nurmukhambetov and Katarzhina Vaviernia discussed key issues related to strengthening cooperation. It is worth noting that in the North Kazakhstan region, UNDP has supported the implementation of several SME projects interested in adopting green technologies.
