Минэнерго озвучило причины сокращения добычи нефти в текущем году.

In the first 11 months of the current year, the volume of oil and condensate production reached 80.5 million tons. This was reported today by Energy Minister Almasadam Satkaliev during a government meeting discussing the results of the fuel and energy sector's development from January to November 2024, as conveyed by a correspondent from the business information center Kapital.kz.

"During the specified period, the total production of oil and condensate amounted to 80.5 million tons, which is 98% of the same period last year (82.2 million tons). This includes major companies in the oil and gas sector: at Tengiz, 25.9 million tons of oil were produced during this period, representing 97.9% compared to the same period last year (26.5 million tons). The oil production at Kashagan totaled 15.8 million tons, or 92.8% of the same period last year (17.1 million tons). The Karachaganak project produced 11.1 million tons, which is 100.9% compared to the same period last year (11 million tons)," he noted.

The decline in production levels compared to last year was influenced by major repairs at large fields in 2024: at Tengiz, due to the planned launch of the Future Expansion Project, repairs were carried out in May and August lasting a total of 50 days. At Kashagan, repairs included the replacement of the slug catcher with a complete shutdown for 21 days (instead of the planned 39 days, with a return to full capacity on November 1, 2024, which provides an increase of 50,000 tons for each day saved, averaging 350,000 to 450,000 tons).

"Furthermore, the decline in production was affected by unplanned shutdowns at the Karachaganak field and restrictions on gas intake at the Orenburg Gas Processing Plant, as well as KTK's scheduled maintenance work and repairs at the second-generation plant at Tengiz due to internal steam leaks in the technological flow starting from October 26, 2024, until the end of the year.

"In this regard, oil production for the current year is expected to be at 87.8 million tons. The failure to meet the planned production target has impacted oil exports. Thus, during the reporting period, 63.2 million tons of oil were exported, which is 98.3% of the same period last year (64.3 million tons)," the minister emphasized.
