The Ministry of Energy has published a draft order on the "Open Regulatory Legal Acts" portal regarding the revision of liquefied petroleum gas prices. It is expected that the new maximum prices will take effect on February 1, 2025. The need for this adjustment is attributed to the increasing losses faced by liquefied petroleum gas producers.
“Currently, the production cost of liquefied gas ranges from 65,000 to 75,000 tenge per ton, while the maximum wholesale price for manufacturing plants is set at 45,158 tenge per ton. Consequently, these plants are accumulating a shortage of funds for modernization and conducting scheduled annual repairs,” the Ministry of Energy stated.
They also noted that the consumption of liquefied petroleum gas continues to rise from 1.8 million tons in 2022 to 2.4 million tons in 2024.
“The price of liquefied petroleum gas in Kazakhstan remains one of the lowest among CIS countries. According to the draft order, the maximum wholesale price for liquefied gas will increase from 45,158 tenge to 51,932 tenge per ton. At the same time, the maximum retail price will rise by 6 to 21 tenge depending on the regions,” the ministry reported.
Currently, the draft order is in the public discussion stage.
