KTZ Express JSC is appealing to the Supreme Court regarding the imposition of a fine for establishing monopolistically high prices, following an investigation by the Agency for the Protection and Development of Competition of the Republic of Kazakhstan, as reported by the business information center Kapital.kz, citing the press service of the national company Kazakhstan Temir Zholy JSC.
"In 2024, based on the complaint from KTZ Express JSC, the Specialized Interdistrict Administrative Court of Astana declared the results of the investigation by the Department of the Agency for the Protection and Development of Competition of the capital illegal, and held the Antimonopoly Authority accountable through a private ruling (September 12, 2024)," the information states.
The court found that KTZ Express JSC did not abuse its monopolistic position by establishing monopolistically high prices for military transportation services. The mentioned transports are not military but rather commercial, the company clarified.
"Despite the previously issued court rulings and the prosecutor's conclusion in favor of KTZ Express JSC, the Astana Court imposed a fine on KTZ Express JSC. Currently, KTZ Express JSC is working to appeal the court decisions to the Supreme Court of the Republic of Kazakhstan," the carrier reports.
It is worth noting that today, February 21, the Agency for the Protection and Development of Competition announced that KTZ Express has been fined for monopolistic pricing on transportation and forwarding services.
"The Department of the Agency for the Protection and Development of Competition in Astana conducted an investigation concerning KTZ Express JSC, during which it identified instances of establishing monopolistically high prices for transportation and forwarding services for military shipments in 2021. Following the case review, the company was fined 853,379.7 tenge, along with the confiscation of monopolistic income amounting to 10.11 million tenge," the Agency reported.
