Shareholders of "Kazatomprom" have approved a deal to supply uranium to two Chinese companies, reports a correspondent from the business information center Kapital.kz, citing data from the national company.
"The extraordinary general meeting of shareholders has approved the conclusion of a spot purchase and sale contract for natural uranium concentrates between JSC "National Atomic Company "Kazatomprom" and the company "CNNC Overseas Limited," as well as a long-term purchase and sale contract for natural uranium concentrates between JSC "National Atomic Company "Kazatomprom" and the company "China National Uranium Corporation Limited," the statement indicates.
It is explained that this deal will "expand the prospects for bilateral cooperation between Kazakhstan and China and provide the PRC with stable supplies of Kazakh uranium for the transition to a carbon-free energy system."
CNNC Overseas, registered in Hong Kong, and CNUC, registered in China, are affiliated organizations of the China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) – a state corporation of the PRC involved in all areas of the nuclear industry. CNNC is the main operator of nuclear power plants in the PRC, focusing on the development of nuclear energy and technologies, construction of nuclear power plants, and production of nuclear fuel.
The extraordinary general meeting of shareholders (EGM) took place on November 15, 2024.
It was previously reported that "Kazatomprom" and Orano Group will collaborate on workforce training for the nuclear sector.
