Kazatomprom and the Swiss company Axpo Power AG, together with Kernkraftwerk Leibstadt AG (KKL AG), have signed the first contract for the supply of Kazakh natural uranium concentrate for the Beznau and Leibstadt nuclear power plants in Switzerland, reports a correspondent from the Kapital.kz business information center, citing the national company's press service.

"We are proud that the first commercial contract between Kazatomprom and Axpo paves the way for significant collaboration between our companies. The expansion of our sales geography highlights Kazatomprom's recognition as a reliable supplier of uranium in the global market. This contract is an important step in our strategy to diversify sales channels. It also plays a crucial role in ensuring energy security and decarbonization, which will strengthen our partnership and ensure long-term supplies of natural uranium for Switzerland's nuclear energy," said Vladislav Baiguzhin, Chief Commercial Officer of Kazatomprom.

The contract signing ceremony took place at the headquarters of Axpo Power AG in Switzerland.

"Signing a contract with Kazatomprom, the world's largest uranium producer, is strategically important for Axpo and KKL AG as we continue to diversify and secure our fuel supplies. Nuclear energy is a key component of our country's low-carbon energy strategy, making reliable fuel supplies extremely important. Including Kazatomprom among our suppliers enhances our ability to ensure stable energy supply for Switzerland and contribute to global decarbonization efforts," said Bruno Zimmermann, Head of Nuclear Fuel at Axpo Power AG.

Earlier, it was reported that Kazatomprom received the right to explore uranium at the Inkai-Mynkuduk site located in the Shu-Sarysu uranium province in the Suzak district of the Turkestan region. The license is issued for a period of six years with the possibility of extension for five years.

In 2024, Kazatomprom produced 23,270 tons of uranium. This is a 10% increase compared to 2023, which was 21,112 tons. Production volumes for Kazatomprom in 2025 are expected to be between 25,000 – 26,500 tons of uranium and 13,000 – 14,000 tons of uranium, respectively, based on a 100% basis and proportional to the share of participation.
