In October 2024, the population paid 10.6 billion tenge for mobile communication services, with physical volumes dropping by 39.5% compared to October 2023. This decline rate is the highest since 2011, according to DATA HUB.
Experts explained that physical volumes are calculated excluding the impact of price growth: this allows for assessing the net dynamics of goods or services sold without the influence of price changes.
“For calculations, the official price index in the specific sector is used, which has turned out to be quite high in this case. According to the Bureau of National Statistics, mobile communication services became 27% more expensive for consumers in October year-on-year. Again, this is the highest rate since 2011. However, the rate of price increase is still lower than the rate of decline in physical volumes. The population nominally paid less for mobile communication services than a year ago: in October, the figure decreased by 23.2% year-on-year, and similar annual decline rates without considering inflation were observed in September,” experts note.
Enterprises and organizations paid almost 7 billion tenge for mobile communication services in October, which is nominally 21.7% more than in the same month in 2023.
“Prices for mobile communication for legal entities have remained almost unchanged over the year, meaning that physical volumes of these services have increased. Consequently, the total nominal decline in the volume of mobile communication services provided in Kazakhstan amounted to 10% year-on-year in October, while physical volumes, accounting for the overall price index in the segment, fell by 22.7%. In September, the actual decline was even greater at 26.5%,” DATA HUB indicates.
