The government will advocate for the commissioning of the gas processing plant at Kashagan in 2026. This was announced at a briefing by Energy Minister Almasadam Satkaliyev, as reported by a correspondent from the Kapital.kz business information center.
“According to QazaqGaz's plans, the year is 2027. We will insist that this plant be put into operation in 2026, meaning the corresponding instruction from the Prime Minister was clearly articulated today at the meeting,” he noted.
The minister explained that there were remarks and questions regarding the change of contractor for this project.
“Nevertheless, as of today, part of the main equipment is on-site, and the foundation piles have been driven. QazaqGaz is accelerating the necessary work. Regarding the construction costs, I would ask you to contact QazaqGaz directly, as this falls within their competence, as well as the project's economic aspects,” emphasized the Minister of Energy.
Today, media reported that QazaqGaz Chairman Sanjar Zhakeshov and North Caspian Operating Company (NCOC) Managing Director Giancarlo Rui received a report from UCC Holding on the current status of the gas processing plant construction and the implementation of pre-project works for the GPP. The first gas processing plant is scheduled to be commissioned in 2026, while the second facility is set to launch in 2028-2029. The construction of these two gas processing plants is stipulated in the agreement between QazaqGaz and Qatar's UCC Holding.
Earlier, at a government meeting, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev stated that progress on launching major industrial projects is slow. Additionally, the task of establishing mid-tier leading companies in the country remains relevant. The government must prepare a work plan with each promising medium-sized enterprise by the end of June this year. He emphasized that attracting private investments into the economy, whether in industry or agriculture, is a priority task for the government.
