In 2024, the income of enterprises from passenger transportation amounted to 1.2 trillion tenge. From January to December, all modes of transport in Kazakhstan carried 1.7 billion passengers. This is a 9.3% increase compared to the same period in 2023. The passenger turnover reached 82.8 billion passenger-kilometers, which is 13.8% more than in 2023, reports a correspondent from the business information center Kapital.kz, citing data from the Bureau of National Statistics.
The majority of passengers - 97.9% or 1.6 billion - were transported by road and urban transport. This is a 9.4% increase compared to the previous year. Revenue from passenger transportation in this sector reached 326.6 billion tenge.
In 2024, railways transported 20.8 million passengers, which is a 5.1% increase compared to 2023. Revenue from passenger transportation amounted to 117.6 billion tenge.
Air transport carried 14.6 million passengers, representing a 10.6% increase compared to the same period in 2023. The income of enterprises totaled 818 billion tenge.
Maritime and coastal transport carried 101.1 thousand passengers, which is 2.5 times more than in 2023. Revenue from these services amounted to 180.7 million tenge.
Domestic water transport carried 231.1 thousand passengers, an increase of 90.9% compared to 2023. Enterprises earned 543.1 million tenge.
It was previously reported that train No. 3/4 "Astana-Almaty" became the first in Kazakhstan to provide passengers with internet access as part of a pilot project. The journey along the route takes 17 hours, and on the first trip, 500 passengers were able to connect to the internet while traveling. However, there is a pressing need for the modernization of railway stations and infrastructure in Kazakhstan, with about 90% of them requiring repairs.
It was also revealed that air travel is more frequently used for tourism and leisure compared to other modes of transport, with over 60% of survey participants agreeing that airplane tickets are unreasonably expensive.
