Signs of abuse of monopoly position have been identified in the operations of Batys Petroleum LLP, reports a correspondent from the Kapital.kz business information center, citing the press service of the Agency for the Protection and Development of Competition.
The agency's department for the Atyrau region has initiated an investigation into the flushing and steaming station of Batys Petroleum based on a complaint from a legal entity.
“As a result of an unscheduled analysis, signs of abuse of monopoly position were found, manifested in the establishment and maintenance of excessively high prices for the current repair service of tank cars used for transporting oil products. The fact of a potential violation of antitrust legislation is being verified as part of the investigation,” the statement indicated.
If the establishment of excessively high prices is confirmed, antitrust response measures will be implemented, including:
- a fine of 3-5% of the company's annual turnover;
- confiscation of monopoly income;
- an order to reduce prices to an economically justified level.
Earlier, the Agency for Competition Protection reported that the contract between Batys Petroleum LLP and the city administration must be terminated. This ruling was issued by the Supreme Court of Kazakhstan. The antitrust authority has also begun a pre-trial investigation into the Atyrau Oil Refinery, and signs of abuse have been identified in the market for home internet services by Beeline.
