"Nursultan Nazarbayev International Airport" has been temporarily transferred to the municipal ownership of Astana, reports a correspondent from the Kapital.kz business information center, citing the press service of the akimat.
"Due to the expiration of the trust management agreement with the Arab company LLP 'Terminals Astana Airport Management', 100% of the shares of JSC 'Nursultan Nazarbayev International Airport' have been transferred to the municipal ownership of Astana," the akimat explained.
The trust management agreement, which expired on January 7, 2025, was in effect from November 7, 2023.
"Considering the change of ownership of the capital airport's shares, preparations are currently underway to conclude a new trust management agreement between the akimat of the capital and LLP 'Terminals Astana Airport Management'," the akimat reported.
It is worth noting that "Nursultan Nazarbayev International Airport" completed the renovation of its runway in October 2024. The work began on May 1 and was scheduled to continue until December 24, 2024. During the renovation, the asphalt concrete surface on the main runway and the taxiway was replaced. Transport Minister Marat Karabaev explained that the poor condition of the aerodrome surfaces is a limiting factor for the development of civil aviation and affects flight safety. The current runway at Astana airport was put into operation in 2003.
